Jackson Hole Visitor's Center 2

The Jackson Hole Visitor's Center is located on the north end of the town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It houses many exhibits on wildlife and natural history. It also has a ton of information on local events, activities, attractions, and lodging.

In the winter months, the Jackson Hole Visitor's Center is the departure point for National Elk Refuge Sleigh Rides. Take this chance to get close and personal with the herd of elk that calls this valley home in the winter months. The elk are used to the red sleighs that carry visitors out onto the refuge because that is how they are fed. This is why the sleighs can approach the elk so closely without them being frightened. If a person were to get off the sleigh in the refuge, the elk would vanish. The elk are fed in the refuge on a regular basis because their winter landscape, originally the town of Jackson and beyond, has been inhabited with humans. The refuge provides a safe place for these creatures to winter.

Sleigh rides on the National Elk Refuge usually last about an hour, and depending on the weather can be a pleasant 30 degrees or with wild chill, down to the single digits. Dress warm and bring extra clothing just in case. The sleighs do provide wool blankets.
